Honda CB1000 Hornet SP Summary
Honda CB1000 Hornet SP: A Beast Reborn for the Streets
The new Honda CB1000 Hornet SP enters the market as a raw, torque-hungry machine that blends performance with simplicity. While it may not boast the most advanced electronic rider aids by today’s standards, it makes up for it with an authentic riding experience. It features three core riding modes—Standard, Sport, and Rain—along with two user-customizable settings. However, it skips premium tech such as cornering ABS or an IMU-based traction control system. For some riders, this stripped-back approach could be exactly the appeal.
On the road, the Hornet SP impresses with its agility despite its 212kg kerb weight. It feels lighter than it is, with sharp steering and a comfortable, narrow seat, making it accessible even to shorter riders. Its engine—a re-tuned version of the legendary Fireblade’s inline-four—delivers 155bhp and 76.7ft-lb of torque. The power kicks in earlier in the rev range, offering real-world usability and making the Hornet incredibly responsive and fun to ride.
The chassis is where the Hornet truly shines. It handles city streets and mountain switchbacks with equal confidence. Bridgestone S22 tyres warm quickly and inspire lean-happy confidence, while the Brembo Stylema brakes, although strong, slightly underwhelm at high speed due to a lack of sharp initial bite.
Riders might find the traction control system overly sensitive, especially since it can’t be disabled on the fly and resets upon restarting the bike. Still, once dialed in, the Hornet is a blast—effortless wheelies, snappy mid-range torque, and an exhaust note that’s far more aggressive than expected from a stock Honda.
Beyond performance, it’s also surprisingly practical. The upright riding position, smooth engine, and optional touring accessories make it suitable for daily rides and longer journeys alike. Though it lacks flashy dash tech and has smaller mirrors than ideal, the overall package offers exceptional value.
