Jaydev Unadkat, who has been a junior to Cheteshwar Pujara as well as captained him for Saurashtra, penned an emotional homage post to the Indian batsman, who announced his retirement on Sunday. The left-arm pacer who played four Test matches for India wrote that he was ‘super proud albeit a bit emotional’ as his colleague and friend called time on a stellar career.

When Cheteshwar Pujara announced his retirement from Indian cricket on Sunday (August 24), tributes poured in from across the cricketing fraternity. Among the most heartfelt was one from Indian fast bowler Jaydev Unadkat, who not only shared the dressing room with Pujara in Team India but also built a brother-like bond with him over 15 years of playing for Saurashtra in Ranji Trophy.

Unadkat, who made his international debut in 2010, recalled his very first interaction with Pujara — a phone call where the senior batter encouraged him to attend KKR trials. From that moment, the duo went on to become more than just teammates; they became family.

In his viral tribute, Unadkat described Pujara as “an inspiration for generations” — not only for his famous grit and determination on the field but also for the fun, playful, and lighter side that only close friends knew.

“I am super proud to call you my senior first, my colleague second, and my brother to round it all off! Your journey is nothing short of a fairy-tale,” wrote Unadkat.

Pujara’s career is nothing short of iconic — 103 Test matches, 7,195 runs, 19 centuries, and a reputation as one of India’s finest Test specialists. His ability to anchor innings and absorb pressure made him the backbone of India’s batting lineup for more than a decade. He finishes as India’s eighth-highest Test run-scorer — a true giant of the game.

As Unadkat rightly put it, Pujara’s legacy will live on. His story of resilience, discipline, and unwavering love for the game will inspire not only this generation but many more to come.
