Greater Noida was rocked by a chilling dowry murder case after Nikki, mother-in-law of set alight over a Rs 36 lakh dowry demand. She succumbed to her burn injuries on Thursday night, leaving behind a disturbing trail of evidence that has since gone viral on social media.
Police confirmed that Nikki’s husband, Vipin Bhati, was arrested on Saturday after videos emerged showing him and another woman brutally assaulting her and dragging her by the hair. Another heart-wrenching clip showed Nikki, severely burnt, staggering down a staircase before collapsing.
In a dramatic turn of events on Sunday, Bhati attempted to escape police custody during a routine medical check-up. According to the Gautam Buddh Nagar Police, he was chased down and shot in the leg before being recaptured.
Meanwhile, Bhati’s mother, Dayawati, was arrested by Kasna Police for her role in the crime.

Family’s Shocking Allegations
Nikki’s elder sister, Kanchan, who is married into the same family, accused Bhati and his relatives of harassing and torturing Nikki for dowry.
“They demanded Rs 36 lakh. She was beaten, hit on the neck and head, thrown acid at, and set on fire in front of her child,” Kanchan alleged.
She also revealed that the family wanted Nikki out of the way so that Bhati could remarry. When she tried to intervene, she too was allegedly assaulted, left injured and unconscious for an entire day.
Police Investigation and Case Details
Additional DCP Sudhir Kumar said that police rushed to Safdarjung Hospital after receiving a call from Fortis Hospital about Nikki's condition. Unfortunately, she died before authorities could arrive.
Based on Kanchan’s complaint, a case of murder and dowry oppression has been registered against Bhati and his family members at Kasna Police Station.
Nikki, who married Vipin in 2016, is survived by her young son. Her cremation was carried out by her family amid grief and humiliation.
